Smoke Signals

Smoke Signals is a film with a very powerful message, a message that drags the viewer in and keeps them interested until the very end, that message is no other than the act of forgiving and excepting what has happened. Victor, the main character, had a tough childhood, due to his father being a drunk and leaving his mother and him near the beginning of the film. Throughout Smoke Signals, Victor bears a grudge against his father only to realize that his father regrets all the bad things he did, he realizes that no matter where is dad was, all he thought about his ‘home’ and returning to the reservation. Not only does this film have a strong message, it also shows us the real character and spirt of a Native American, poking fun of the stereotypes that have been given to them by whites. It shows us the true feelings of a Native American, how they feel towards whites, towards the stereotypes they are giving, and most importantly the pride they have in being a Native American. Smoke Signals is an amazing film with an amazing story and message.
