Jaws revolutionized the suspense genre. This movie shows that nature cannot be tamed by mankind and the shark in jaws is an example of the most dangerous that nature has to offer. It also shows that safety should come before money and other selfish desires. If they had closed the beach after the first shark attack then many other people wouldn't have been hurt and they could have dealt with the problem easier. The way that this movie is scary is it doesn't show the shark often. You rarely see the shark until near the end and things like just showing the boat being tipped, or the barrels dragged through the water make for a suspenseful feeling and when the shark is actually seen it is a lot scarier than it would have been if he hadn't been hiding. It also makes it more believable because if they had shown the shark more often it probably would have looked fake at parts. The movie really makes the shark feel powerful, almost like hes a supernatural monster but it is a realistic natural creature. The fact that Quinn was supposed to be the best at hunting sharks and he was still killed so easily by it shows that it is a ferocious creature. The negative that comes with making the shark so giant and so horrifying is that it changed the worlds perception of sharks and made a creature that rarely kills humans into something that is greatly feared. I feel like it distorted peoples perceptions of sharks but it was needed to tell the story of one shark that was different from all the rest. Overall I would say that jaws is an awesome suspense movie and also a great adventure movie.
