#1 Independent film critique (Anchorman)

In Anchorman, Ron Burgundy and his Channel 4 news team were the top of all the news channels. Ron Burgundy was a legend when it came to reading the news. Veronica Corningstone also reads the news, but only for cooking, fashion shows, and any other “female” interests. When Veronica refuses to keep reading news of no interest, she decides she wants to become an anchorman (or woman) like Ron Burgundy. The only down side was that only men were allowed to read the news during that time. She is given the perfect opportunity to do just that when Ron shows up late to work (because his dog was kicked off the bridge). Instead of getting a compliment from Ron for reading the news perfectly, Ron is offended and turns the situation into a battle between the two of them. Ron and his team try everything possible to get Veronica to lose focus or read the news wrong. After Veronica decides she can’t take anymore, she changes the teleprompter to make Ron read something bad. Ron ends up getting fired, but in the end Veronica needs his help which ultimately leads to Ron getting back his job.

I thought this was a good film because it was a comedy that took a serious event (Such as women not being able to read the news) and turned it into a funny story line. A lot of the things in the film were over exaggerated, but that’s what kept things interesting.
