These type of movies, historical dramas, are the kind that my mother watches religiously. She loves historical dramas, and I never really understood why. They were all about talking and politics and social structure. I never found it appealing until I sat down to actually pay attention to one. The complex plots with subtext upon subtext are fascinating. In Amazing Grace, the beautiful cinematography highlighted the contrast between the filth of slave trade and the luxury of Parliament and its members' living spaces. Benedict Cumberbatch eloquently expressed the struggle of Parliament members to fight for what they believe in while not violating the rights or livelihood of the country.
I prefer him in Star Trek, though.
