Amazing Grace

The film Amazing Grace is about the abolishment of the slave trade. The main character is William Wilberforce. He fails a few times to abolish the slave trade and he's disappointed about that. His wife convinces him to keep going to fight against the the slave trade. It takes him twenty years that the parliament passes the bill. The film is a biographical film.
I didn't knew that in Great Britain also an abolition movement was, so that was interesting to see.  It is a good film to see how the abolition movement was in Britain and how long it took. The camera picture is good and it hasn't the typical hollywood colors. The film uses more dark light, to support the significant of the slave trade act. I really liked the film music and of course the end, when they play song Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, that was really emotional.
The only thing, I didn't liked is, that the film is pretty long and that made it a little bit hard to follow if you watch it in multiple sections. Ioan Gruffudd did a good job as William Wilberforce.

Amazing Grace

This film as a whole gives a quite intimate experience of what happened during the slave trade and the emotions that drove the abolition of it. I was advised before watching the movie to look for the empathy that this movie would offer and with that it really showed me what people of this time were feeling. The movie starts out with the long explanation of the character which helps the viewer to understand the character so later in the movie the viewer has an empathetic experience to relate with the main character. The movie ends with William and his family living happily ever after with William fighting for the same thing, equality of human beings.

Amazing Grace

This film in a general sense is a battle of the minority of the group not favoring the slave trade and the majority of the people that favor the slave trade.  With enough will and effort you can pull through with any outcome you put your mind to. This is a motivational film to persuade the concepts you believe are beneficial to society no matter how others disapprove. And in final means of persuasion the house voted for the abolition towards slave ships thanks to William Wilberforce.

ÅMÅZING G®ÅCE

Maybe it's because I'm not a history buff. I found the storyline and the characters to be an absolute bore. For someone who's not an expert on slave trade in Britain or the link between Britain and slave trade to the US, I found myself at a loss to understand the true significance of the legislation the House of Commons was passing. I doubt I was alone in this lack of knowledge. Some more disclosure on these subjects in the story line would have helped.

Amazing Grace!

Amazing Grace is a story of the minority overcoming majority.  Throughout the film constantly the main character is battled by opposition as he tries to rid the Earth of the slave trade.  This film is really a great example of no matter how big the opposition is you can always outwork them.  A viewer could use this film as motivation to break free of opposition and work their tales off to make what ever they want happen.  I believe that this film touches on many emotions in a great aspect, in a way that you feel sympathy for the characters.  This is done through the build up of the film, as well as certain shots/music that is played.  This film will draw the viewer in with it's intense emotions.  Amazing Grace receives 10 out of 10 votes against the slave trade.

Citizen Kane

This cinematic revolution introduced the motion of the camera as a jaw dropping phenomena that would change the viewers and producers experience in film forever. Personally, the film was a bit dry and drawn out, but seeing the difference the movement of view being the camera made it really got me to watch this film with a different, more open perspective. One of the more amazing things about the film is Orson Welles who starred, produced, wrote, and directed the movie. For one man to do these things, along with the struggle of these many roles, to then have the creative thinking to shock the audience with the movement of the camera inspires and resonates with me. Its amazing to witness the seemingly impossible done and this film was nothing short of that. The movie begins with Citizen Kane, a man into the newspaper magnate Hearst and slowly changes his subject from idealistic social service to a man hunting power.  He proves to be good with the camera and is offered a job in Hollywood where he sets out his career of film making.  Its always great to see revolutionary discoveries of any field and I can see through what I have witnessed with movies before Citizen Kane how amazed the people in the audience actually were.

Citizen Kane

Orson Welles was not only the director of the film, but played the title role as well. It’s been said this film was his most important and influential work. This drama based on William R. Hearst’s life was made in 1941. During the film you learn about Kane’s tragic life as a reporter named Jerry Thompson attempts to understand what Kane meant when he said “Rosebud” before he died. I enjoyed this film even though it was kind of sad to hear about Kane’s life. Again i’m a fan of the black and white because you are not distracted by the surroundings in the film and can better focus on what is happening to the characters. You can tell this is an older film because of its quality and the angles of the camera. Most films are in HD now, which I don't like because it makes me feel dizzy and like too much is going on. The plot was a little slow for me because Kane’s life events seemed to go down hill as the film went on. If I was the director, I would have added something to the plot to make the movie more intriguing so the audience doesn't lose interest. The acting was good, but that still didn’t add much excitement or drama to the film.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane so fair is not the best movie we have seen in this class. The plot was hard to fallow at the begging it was going to fast didn't even understand anything. The lighting in the movie was actually really good its like the lighting was really diverse and unique. I thought the acting in the movie was a little weird its not like the acting that we have today in movies I think its slow. I think the plot was that it was Kane's life and they were showing how he became so wealthy. Even know the movie was boring I enjoyed the cinematography in the movie.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane is a American drama film from 1941, about the death of Charles Foster Kane and his final word-"Rosebud". After trying to find out who or what Rosebud was, it is revealed in the end to be a sled from his childhood. The sled was first shown during his childhood, in Kane's happiest moments, but later destroyed in a fire. The filming techniques used in this film differed from those used prior to this film. In this film there was a lot of deep focus, meaning that the backgrounds wasn't blurred but rather sharp and clear. I personally liked this film and enjoyed watching it, it is very informative and can keep my attention.

Citizen Kane

The famous film Citizen Kane directed by Orson Welles is about the life of Charles Foster Kane, a successful newspaper publisher. The death of Kane becomes really famous and the news reporter Thompson wants to find out the meaning of "Rosebud", the last word Kane said before he died.

The film is famous because of the special effects like the light, which Welles produced in the film. It was a new sensation for the film audience back then.

Citizen Kane

This film changed the movie world forever, it cleared a pathway for films after it. All the films before this movie were still shots and un advanced camera angles but this movie opened up a new visual to what movies will be like for the remainder of a really long time.

Cîtîzen Kane

Everyone knows Citizen Kane is a masterpiece. The camera work seems modern even after 60 years. But it does have gaffes. In the scene where Kane’s love nest is revealed to his wife and soon to the world by gloating Boss Gettys, the camera angles, lighting, atmosphere, virtually everything is near perfect—until Welles reacts with a howling scream out of gaslight melodrama: “I’m sending you to Sing Sing, Gettys! Siiiing Siiiing!!!” Welles did create moments of enraged impotence in Kane.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane, a historical drama from 1941, is renowned for its innovative cinematography and storyline. While not much compared to current movies, this film was key in the advancement of movies and plots. It brought movies from being dinky little skits with weak plots to a viable source of artistic ability.
The difficult part about watching this movie is that you have to pay very close attention to it, as speaking is very important for the plot. If you aren't listening, it's very easy to miss a big moment of the film. This is the reason, I think, that many people don't like the film very much. That, and that it seems so uneventful in the shadow of action-adventure films today.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane was a revolutionary film for its time and it launched the industry of film into an exciting new era of techniques.  Being the first film to use major camera movements made possible by the portability of the camera on the sets created a look for scenes that had never been done before.  Orson Wells used new camera angles and movements to give power to characters and tell the story in a more in depth way.  The lighting was another area that was rediscovered by this film.  Casting shadows and silhouettes  created the drama that made films suspenseful and interesting.  The layers of the story are very deep and there are a lot of means of telling the story that are ahead of its time and innovated the way stories are told through film.  Overall Citizen Kane is a historical masterpiece.

Citizen Kane

Definitely a classic that everyone should see and not necessarily because it's the best movie out there but instead because this movie had a huge impact on the development of American cinema. If your interested to learn what made movies what they are today then I think that you should see this movie. It has some really great cinematography work in it and it's hard to believe that this was Orson Wells first movie. the lighting has a great dramatic feel to it. Orson Wells is a great director and actor, just the fact that he played the main character in the movie as well as being able to direct a fantastic film shows how brilliant he really is. I really think this is a must see.

Citizen Kane

While not a bad movie, I don't agree that it's a masterpiece of that day.  I thought the intro was a little engaging, but the longer the movie drags on and his life starts to go down hill, so did the enjoyment.  I don't think it was that interesting for me to see this rich guy have these problems.  Him becoming a governor wasn't a very easy goal to relate to.  From its day, I would give it an 8.  Now though, I would say that it's a good movie, but not really great.  It just doesn't have the solid message or plot that it needs to get a better review from me.  Overall, his problems were too extreme or too common to base a movie off of.

Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane is a unique film because it's filming technique is so well done. Every beam of light needed to be planned out because this movie was filmed before they could go back and edit or add special effects. It was also in black and white; meaning that the lighting was even harder to achieve because the light contrast was more harsh than in a colored movie.
Even though we didn't finish the movie, I really enjoyed taking a closer look into this movie. I think the acting is very high quality and the film is more than a work of art than entertainment. I think the director  could included a little more explanation to some scenes because I got a little confused if I was watching a  flashback or a current event.

Citizen Kain

This movie is about the life of news paper editor and his life. The opening scene is of a man dying and the last thing he says is rosebud. The film then follows people who go and ask people who were involved with the people in this mans life trying to find the meaning of the word Rosebud. The man, Charles Kain, is a rich man who works at a new, newspaper. The news paper is based in New York. I LIke this movie however, we have only watched the first 40 odd minutes of the film and I am curious to see the rest of the movie to see how it ends. I am not a huge fan of black and white but the story of this movie distracts me form the absence of color.

Kane

This movie changed the world of film we live in now. Before this Citiizen Kane, all movies were filmed with still shots there were no panoramics or follow cams or any moving shots. Now today there probably isn't a single movie that comes out shot completely still, and I think it makes a huge difference. Moving shots keep you interested, watching movies that are still gets really boring even if it's a great movie.

Cltizen Kane

Citizen Kane looks at a slight transition a boy takes from being poor to a wealthy community.  To me the transition was very confusing, but once Kane got his act together he inherited a newspaper company.  During so he revolutionized the paper and the way things go out, as well as what the paper says.  Kane treated his employees properly without letting down too much of his power.  This movie was a very good look at how you can have fun with responsibility, but once you go on wild sprees it's easy to lose everything you worked for.

Funny Farm

Chevy Chase has a certain genre of his own built around the way he does comedy.  There's no over dramatic stupidity associated with all of the characters like in many other movies, instead his comedy succeeds from the use of irony and exaggeration.  His characters always find usual events falling apart and hitting rock bottom all around him.  The way he goes about dealing with people like the crazy mailman and when his wife becomes the successful writer that he was supposed to be, creates a great setup for cynical laughter.  The movie builds through a series of events of catastrophic attempts for the Farmers to fit in and make the best out of their rural farm town life. It leads up to the finale, the payoff, the town that we have been shown to love for being so abstract and embarrassing makes a complete turn around for the interest of money and puts on a 100% fake act in order to look like what people expect from a type of town.  This is funny for a number of reasons, the main being that peoples expectations are completely unreal of what is actually there and someplace so depressing can shape itself up for some money.  I actually found this movie to be quite funny and a real fun and enjoyable watch.

Funny Farm Critique

In the majority of the comedy films we’ve been watching, it’s evident the characters are trying to be funny or act differently. Chevy Chase in this film is the perfect actor for this part because he seems so serious and unaware of how funny his actions are. When him and his wife move out into the country so “Andy” can write his novel, on thing after another goes wrong that creates a hilarious storyline. We find these unfortunate events funny because either we’ve been there at some point in time, or we can’t believe how much bad luck one couple can experience over the course of a couple days/weeks. This film had a little bit of a slow start because nothing out of the ordinary began happening until they were situated in their new house. Overall I liked this film, but I still think the Three Amigos and Vegas Vacation are my favorite movies that star Chevy Chase.

Funny Farm

Although I didn't see all of the film, the story line was quite evident. The film follows a struggling writer who moves with his wife to the countryside, their intention originally being to be in a more calm and peaceful environment so Andy (the writer) can publish his book. This plan backfires quite miserably and sends Andy and his wife on a turn of events that leads to them wanting a separation in their marriage. The movie is riddled with humor, but a certain type of humor, one that only certain people may find funny. I had mixed opinions about the film, finding certain parts hilarious, and other parts rather mediocre on a humor scale. Some of the elements of the film that do make it humorous, are the ironic twits in the plot, the blunders of the main character, and how unrealistic some of the events in the movie are. Although this film isn't a new favorite of mine, it was enjoyable and I would watch it again.

Elf

Elf tells the story of an orphaned human: Buddy, who is accidentally picked up by Santa Claus on Christmas night, and then makes his home at the North Pole, being raised by elves and working in Santa's work shop. Will Ferrell portrays Buddy in the film, and although Ferrell is a very talented actor, his performance in Elf was something I'm not very fond of. Sure, there are some scenes in the movie that made me laugh, but for the majority of the film I felt almost uncomfortable watching how much Buddy makes a fool out of himself on the streets of New York; and just how innocent and naive he is to the unpleasantness of the real world added to my dislike of the movie. It wasn't so much Buddy's character that made me dislike the movie, but how the world interacted with Buddy; and how much of an idiot it made him appear to be. Regardless of my opinion, Elf has found it's way to one of the top holiday movies of all time and will most likely continue to be for a long time to come.

Funny Farm

Funny Farm follows a couple that moves out to the country to start a new life, and for the male, Andy to start writing a novel. When the first move into their new house they face many problems, such as, the movers getting lost, causing their belongings to be a day late. Andy's wife ends up writing a novel and Andy gets really jealous, leading to them wanting to get a divorce and selling the house but they end up work everything out and have an happy ending. This film was good but it was not my favorite.

Funny Farm

Funny farm follows a couple who retreat to the "farm life" to settle down and for the male, Andy,  to start/finish his new novel. The film starts with the move and everything going wrong. The movers are late, there is no food and no phone in the house. Once the movers get there, the wife is unpacking and a snake crawls into the house. The couple are then very spectacle of the new move and if it was the best idea for them. When Andys wife comes up with a novel Andy gets very jealous and they end up going for divorce and selling the house but in the end realize they love each other and it ends happily. It's not one of my favorite movies, but its not at the bottom.

Elf

Elf, theres not a lot you can say about this movie. Its hilarious yet silly at the same time. I think I may be the only person on the planet who actually does not like the movie. The idea of a grown man walking around in tights eating gum off of New York Streets, is more disgusting than funny. Maybe it's because I have never been into the silly comedy that has taken the world over. Maybe it's because it seems childish to me. Maybe I'm the odd ball out, but whatever the case, Elf is not my favorite movie or anywhere near the top of the list. However, I did find my self chuckling at some points.

Funny Farm

The film Funny Farm is about an author named Andy and his wife. They moved from New York to the country. They had a lot of issues and trouble. Andy isn't able to write a good book, but his wife writes a book just for fun and send it to a publisher. The publisher is amazed by the book and wants to publish it. As the wife tells Andy the good news, he's jealous and falls into depression, which his wife couldn't understand. So they want to sell the house and want to get divorced, but at the meeting with the buyers they recognize that they still love each other and don't want to get divorced and sell the house.
This film tells kind of a love story but with fun and ironic parts.
The actors fit good into film.
I never saw a Chevy Chase film so it was the first time and I liked it.

Funny farm

This movie talk about a family, the husband is a reporter but he dosen't like his job, so he decided to move to a new place. Its not like they want, these people in the town are not friendly, they just care about the money. And after that, his wife want divorce with him, before they divorce, they want to sell the houes first. They try to let everybody to help him sell the house, during this time, they know they still love each other, they dont want to move, they love this place.I think thats great end and funny movie.

March of the penguins

March of the penguins is a movie tacking you on a journey though the life of a penguins. Its a hard movie to watch because you see penguins die and baby penguins die to but thats the only bad part. The rest of the movie is that the penguins tack a walk to there home and there home is far from the ocean that they feed from and it tack them weeks to get back to his home. The best part of the movie is the voice of Morgan Freeman you just get lost in his voice he makes everything sound better. If they din't choose Morgan Freeman as the voice actor I don't know if the movie would be as good as it is now.

Funny Farm

I like this movie it was a good movie. I think it was funny when they moved there and the moving truck got lost and broke the bridge. Bad things kept happening to the couple even though all they wanted was to be happy. Even when they got in a fight, I thought at the end of the movie when they told all the people that lived in the town to act like nice people. They figured it out and ended up having the life they wanted. But I thought the dog was the funniest thing in the movie because he was so harm less too and how he din;t know what was going on around him.

Funny Farmer

The main character Chubby Chase displays a wonderful example of irony and situational comedy. This film did a nice job of building up a pleasant beginning and slowly make things worse to eventually crash into an awful divorce, movement, and hatred to a nice happy ending where he finds what he truly wants. Personally this type of comedy isn't my favorite, but it absolutely has its place in the genre. I found it amusing of how everything seemed to be getting worse and everything turning out terribly. Ironically it took the Farmers to hate each other and their situation to truly find love which is, frankly, quite romantic. Overall this movie is great, Chubby Chase is a great actor in the comedy genre and I look forward to seeing more of his masterpieces.

Funny Farm

This comedic movie is about a couple who moves out into the country to have a relaxing and peaceful life.  Chevy Chase and His wife move their because they want to relax and so Chevy can write his novel. When out there the couple receives a rough awakening from the town and each other. After Chevy had written his first novel and his wife says its terrible he goes into a hatred mode. Then to stir things up more he finds out that his wife wrote her own children's story and earned money from it. Overall this a moderately funny movie.  It is only moderately because it didn't relate to my sense of comedy. I still liked the movie though and would give it 4 out 0f 5 stars because it was a good plot and funny ending.

Funny Farm

In this movie, Chevy Chase plays an aspiring writer moving to the country. Throughout the course of the movie, his entire view of small towns changed and his dream of being a "country man" are slowly crushed. The thick irony coating the film makes it tastefully funny while giving it the classic Chevy Chase tinge. I highly recommend it for a good family film.

Fünny Farm

Chevy Chase is a very funny actor and he played his role very well. I really enjoyed Funny Farm because it was very different from the comedy movies that I've seen recently, and it was an older film. The Farmers moved to Red Bud which is out in the country and they thought it would be very peaceful, but the mailman drives by at 100mph every single morning in his super old truck and it's really loud. I liked how they tried selling the house and they got everyone to act like normal people just so they could get out of there. They did end up staying but it was funny how everything was staged. I would recommend this to people who haven't seen.

That farm was funny!!!

Funny Farm was a very funny movie.  I really like the sarcasm of a married couple moving out of the city and into the country.  I think this is one of the funniest Chevy Chase movies.  All of his timing with the jokes are hilarious and well done.  The two main actors have a fun chemistry together.  There was good shots and lighting.  Lighting may have been slightly better in a couple of scenes, but it was good overall.  I would definitely recommend it for a good few laughs.  It was funny!

Funny Farm ft. Chevy Chase

Although this movie does take place on a farm I would not say it is necessarily funny.  This movie presents the story of a big city couple trying to make it work in the country.  Along the way there are a few knee slapping moments as well as irony, however that is it.  If you are going to watch this movie I highly suggest you are in the mood to see a story of a young couple, and not necessarily expecting to laugh your tail off.  As long as you watch this comedy with low comedic expectations it has a really nice easy to follow plot that is enjoyable.  I give this film 6 backyard buried bodies out of 10.

Funny Farm

Chevy Chase has always been a funny actor and in all of his movies he does everything wrong, this film takes him and his wife out of their comfort zone in the city into a whole different lifestyle in the country and they find trouble adjusting to it. This movie is filled with irony and hilarious comedic actions that kept you laughing the whole time. Andy Farmer started a successful journalist which allowed them to move out into the country in return for a good book and he ended up not being able to come up with anything and his wife (who was a stay at home wife) had no writing experience and ended up ironically writing a novel and getting it published and through attempted divorce and trying to move out  they ended up staying in the home and enjoying their new lives.

Funny farm

Chevy chase is one of my favorite actors in comedy, Christmas vacation is one of my favorite movies of all time. But I'm not going to lie I didn't like funny farm even half as much. I thought it started great, you got to know the characters really well and the pacing was perfect. But about halfway through the movie, the funny turns down and the movie is just like every predictable comedy movie. It's hard to make a comedy that isn't predictable but they always throw in some stupid drama that obviously gets resolved at the end and everything ends happy. I'm pretty sick of it and I think that can ruin a great movie.

Funny Farm

Funny Farm stands out as one of Chevy Chase’s best films.  It’s my personal favorite of his.  I laughed hard enough that I embarrassed myself during the fishing scene.  “You’re not knocking him out, you’re just beating the p*ss out of him.”  Lol.  I’ve found many of Chevy Chase’s films to be somewhat cliche, and some, unfunny.  However, everything (dialogue, acting, cinematography, plot) seem to come together in Funny Farm.  The irony is also heavier in this film, compared to his others.  His wife’s effortless success at writing children stories creates a very entertaining situation, indeed.  The dog's funny, the mailman's funny, and it was funny to see the main character's hopes of small town life be destroyed.  7/10

Funny Farm

This movie grows on you. It's not the high comedy Chevy Chase has done before, but it's an understated kind of comedy that builds in momentum. Madelyn Smith is marvelous as his wife; her performance is full of delightful little throwaway expressions that enhance the mood of the film. I would highly recommend "Funny Farm"; the final scenes in which Yellowdog digs up part of a former owner and drags it into the house are priceless.

Elf

Elf is cute movie.  It's a funny movie.  It's a feel good film that's fun for the whole family! The purpose of Elf is to be as fun as possible, while still not being controversial.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, and I did enjoy watching it, but I really hope that I never have to see that movie again.  That being said, nothing was overtly corny or anything.  Will Ferrel does a great job at giving the impression of completely unadulterated innocence. I think it's interesting that that innocence was never lost as he dealt with the the real world.  I wonder if this is because who ever conceived the script was trying to make sure that the film only evokes happiness upon the viewer, or if he was trying to convey a message of some kind.  Yeah, good movie though.

Elf

i admit that at first i thought boring and that this film would not be very good at all. But i stood corrected. I loved this film and it was so different to many hollywood productions. Will ferell was hilarious as ever and along with zoolander is probably his best performance. The jokes were hilarious and the comedy was written brilliantly. What seems like a typical feel good xmas film was actually nothing like any other christmasy film which will no doubt boost kids christmas spirit.

Funny Farm critique

I knew I was not coming to class today so I watched this movie at home last night, because my uncle has it. It was surprising to be to see Chevy Chase as a young man because I am so used to seeing him as an old man on the show Community. Andy Farmer and his wife, Elizabeth just moved to the picturesque little countryside house. Andy is very excited to start his Novel and ignores all the little problems when they first arrive, but as things progress they realize that their new life is not as idea as they thought it would be.
I think the acting was good, I believed the wife's emotions. When she found the coffin in the garden I thought it was really funny because I feel like that's something that would happen to me. I always get in the weirdest situations. It's comical how only after the couple want to leave the town blossoms into what they had originally wanted. I am glad they decide to stay together and eventually become writers with a child on the way.

Elf

This comedy about an elf human was new and original. I believe that Will Farrel was the perfect person to play elf. His persona was perfect. What made this film funny was the orignalness, grossness, and when he or another person was caused pain. For example when he put syrup on everything you were grossed out but was funny because of the other casts expressions. This movie always makes me laugh and is so funny. Will Farrel is a great actor. Overall this movie was good and I would give this 5 out of 5 stars because of the cast and original filming.

EIF

I think this is a comedy movie and i like it. Talk about a human grow up with santa, when he knows where he came from, he decided to look for his father in New York city. First time he meets with his father, his father can not believe this boy is his son but that truth. In the New York nobody believe he has been live with santa. After that the really santa come to the New York everyone was so exciting, and that was best christmas ever.

Sixth Sense

Sixth Sense was one of those thireols that you have to think and I love movies that make you think. I don't think it was that scary for a scary movie it was more shocking then most horror movies. I dint know that they doctor was dead in tell the end that was a big shocker it made sense because his wife was not listening to him. This was the first time I say this movie and I dint know that farce I see died people was from this movie but that farce did make this movie poplar. Most of all I thought this movie was a good movie.

Elf

Will Ferrell is excellent in all of his movies but I don't think this movie was his best one. It had some funny parts that I liked but the movie that I thought Will Ferrell was great in was anchorman I thought that was a funny movie. If Elf did not us Will then the movie would not be that great. The first time I say Elf I was a little kid and Elf has some adult humor that I dint get when I was a little kid and when I watched it in class I knew what he meant.  If we are talking about Christmas movies I would have to put this in the top five of my movies because it makes me exited for Christmas.
